The name

Kin is the people. The meadow is the ground you share. Kin is the older, warmer word for family: the people you would drop everything for, which stretches to the grandparent with the spare key and the godmother who never forgets a birthday. A meadow is the one kind of ground defined by being shared: tended by everyone who uses it, changing through the year, and owned by nobody but the people who walk it. Put together, it is the only name on the shelf that sounds like somewhere, rather than something.

Why it exists

Running a family and a house is three jobs that usually live in three apps: a calendar with lists and meals in it, a family app with chat, photos and chores, and somewhere for the paperwork, the policies, the warranties, the MOT. None of them talk to each other, so the meal plan never fills the shopping list, the MOT is in one place and the calendar in another, and the class trip letter is in your inbox, which is in none of them.

Kinmeadow puts the whole lot in one place, with an assistant that reads your mailbox and your calendars, so the things you would otherwise forget turn up on their own.

What we decided

• No ads. Not on the paid tier and not on the free one. An app that knows your children’s names and your home routine should not also be an advertising surface, and once it is one, every other decision starts bending towards it.
• No selling data. There is no version of this where your family’s week is a product.
• One paid plan. Pro has everything in it. There is nothing to work out and nothing above it.
• No tracking where anyone is. Kinmeadow knows where the family needs to be and when to set off, and that is enough. Nobody in the house is a dot on a map.

Built for a UK family

MOT and road tax looked up from the number plate, inset days and school holidays as their own kind of entry, times written the way you say them, and prices in pounds. Small things, and the kind you notice every day.

What goes in

What is in the app is there because a family asked for it and it could be built well. We would rather do a small number of things properly than a long list badly.
